Highly underestimated work, in the shadow of Gibbon but with meticulous detail in presenting the geographical impact of the Roman Conquest. Interior bright and clean, with very minor spotting near front. Ink markings to first page of first chapter. Bookplate / Exlibris of Davenport House (Bridgnorth) to front pastedown with the printed motto “Audentes Fortuna Junat”. Extremely rare, rather scarce and even scarcer with the large folding-map included !
