1. [Gill, William Daniel (W.D.)].

Collection of Printed Materials / Offprints / Publications / Papers, Essays by english geologist, William Daniel Gill (1916 – 1922) [plus dozens of offprints from colleagues, sent to Gill]. This extensive collection of materials, authored by this eminent geologist, was once part of the Reference-library of his colleague David (Dave) Naylor but sells here separately. You find a detailed account of the publications at the end of this description. The collection also includes the original offprint of his landmark-publication “Sand Volcanoes on Slumps in the Carboniferous of County Clare, Ireland”, which he authored together with P.H.Kuehnen in 1957 [and which is here included with a typescript of the work included with manuscript-corrections by Gill in the text]. Besides his own works in offprints, there are dozens of pamphlets and offprints which were sent to Gill during his career, often with signatures or inscriptions by the authors to Gill.

Folded Frontispiece, X, 111 pages with 21 plates (original Lithographs often large folding). Hardcover / Original publisher’s cloth, embossed with gilt lettering to cover. Excellent condition of one of the rarest books on the History of irish commercial fishing and suggestions for professionalizing irish fishing industry in the 19th century. This book comes from the library of irish engineer William Le Fanu, with his bookplate to the pastedown and a stamp “Board of Public Works” to the dedication-page. The books interior with all the lithographic illustrations in very good condition. Occasional foxing only. Extremely rare; very scarce publication ! This is a superior example of this book; with all illustrations in place and in excellent condition.

Unbelievably rare edition with the excellent handcoloured plates in fresh colours and overall excellent condition.

Half a page in chapter “M” torn out. Faint dampstain throughout. Otherwise in very good condition. Binding rubbed and bumped on the corners but absolutely firm and tight. Minor traces of foxing and staining only. Name of preowner in 17th or 18th century ink on endpaper: “Daniel Eugene MacNamara”. Very rare Dublin Edition of this publication with a full-page recommendation of the famous Lexicographer Benjamin Martin.
