The Universal Gazetteer [Very Rare Dublin Edition] : or a Description of the several Empires, Kingdoms, States, Provinces, Countries, Cities, Towns, Seas, Lakes, Rivers, Mountains, Volcanos &c. in the Known World. Together with an Account of The Extent, produce, Revenue, Forces, Trade, Manufacturer, Religions &c. of the several Countries and of the Battles, Sieges and other Transactions that have sendered them remarkable. To which is prefixed a copious Introduction to Geography. The whole calculated to explain the Occurences in Modern History. Illustrated with four large and accurate Maps of Europe, Asia, Africa and America (only the Map of Asia is present: “New & Correct Map of Asia – Drawn from the latest and best Authorities by J. Gibson”). The Second Edition, in which several necessary Corrections and Material Additions have been made; the Geography of Ireland has been revised and enlarged; about four hundred entire new Articles have been added, chiefly relative to North America and Ireland, none of which are contained in the London Impression, and comprising in the whole, many thousand Places more than any other Gazzetteer; Whereby it is rendered the largest, cheapest, and most compleat Work of the Kind extant.

Dublin, Printed for Peter Wilson in Dame-Street, 1759. Small Octavo. XXXVIII, (1), 512 unnumbered pages (collation complete) with only the folded Map on Asia present and the other three maps missing. Including 6 pages of “Books, printed for and sold by Peter Wilson, in Dame-Street”. Original Hardcover (full calf on five raised bands with original spinelabel intact). Half a page in chapter “M” torn out. Faint dampstain throughout. Otherwise in very good condition. Binding rubbed and bumped on the corners but absolutely firm and tight. Minor traces of foxing and staining only. Name of preowner in 17th or 18th century ink on endpaper: “Daniel Eugene MacNamara”. Very rare Dublin Edition of this publication with a full-page recommendation of the famous Lexicographer Benjamin Martin.

[No.158 of only 200 Signed copies of the rare, Limited Edition]. Kiel, Nieswand Verlag, 1990. Large Folio (48 cm x 34.5 cm). 17 full-page-photographs on heavy archival paper. With a hidden chapter in the rear: “Bob Willoughby’s favourite Tunes”. Original Hardcover (spine comprises of a brass tube). Excellent condition with minor signs of exceptional condition. The publication was very successful and experienced a second, revised edition which was not signed. This first, limited edition, signed by the groundbreaking jazz-photographer Bob Willoughby, is exceedingly scarce and should not be mistaken for the “normal” edition, which looks the same but is not signed and limited.

Rear pastedown rubbed. Otherwise with some rubbing but in good, firm condition. A very rare example of an ealy association copy between two irish Trinity mathematicians of the 19th century.

Published in weekly, monthly and wuarterly parts. Composed of Original Papers and Music, with Reviews of Literature in General. Illustrated with numerous Engravings, Portraits of Eminent Persons and Subjects connected with Fashion and the Fine Arts.

Two Parts in one Volume (First half year from January to July, 1822). London, Published for C.M.Westmacott, by Hoffmann, 1822. Quarto (20 cm x 27 cm). Portrait-Frontispiece, 214, Portrait Frontispiece, 208 pages plus Index for both quarterly parts with listing of all engravings, scores of original pieces of music, portraits, engravings of the latest, “newest” Parisian Costumes etc. Original Hardcover / 19th – century half leather with gilt lettering on spine. With 11 instead of 23 full-page illustrations of which some included are not called for and others seem to have never been part of the collection. Some minor signs of wear only, a few very faint signs of foxing, a little dusty endpapers but especially the text and illustrations all in generally very good or even better condition with some minor signs of wear only. Extremely Rare !

Small Archive / Manuscript Material, Letters, Designs, Books and Pamphlets as well as vintage photographs of Furniture like Chairs (Percy A. Wells Chair), Wardrobe, Advertising of Exhibitions [chaired for example by Christopher Hussey], etc. etc. This material all originates from Percy A. Wells’ personal collection and sensationally also includes a manuscript notebook / sketchbook with his drawings, designs and a detailed, typescript with autobiographical memories in which Wells details his decades of being involved in Furniture Design. Loosely inserted in the manuscript notebook / sketchbook, is a signed manuscript letter on stationery of Kelmscott Manor by Mary ‘May’ Morris, daughter of the Pre-Raphaelite artist and designer William Morris and his wife and artists’ model, Jane Morris [included is ephemeral material which for example informs about a pair of Episcopal Gloves, designed by William Morris’s daughter [May Morris] and the clipping continues: “Those who remember Morris’s attitude towards the Church will smile and reflect upon time’s revenges”]. The collection includes an abundance of information which easily can lead to a monograph on the life of Percy A. Wells. Hardcover Folder with loosely inserted material like letters and photographs, envelopes, signed and inscribed books and rare pamphlets with designs etc. Very good condition with only minor signs of wear. Fantstic Archive and lots of unpublished material of one of the more eminent Cabinet, Furniture and Chair – Designers which resulted from inspiration by William Morris’ Kelmscott – School. Percy A. Wells Chairs are still in regular demand today and sell for stunning prices (3000 £ etc.).

Three Volumes bound in Two (complete set). [Paris], 1726. Small-Octavo (10 cm x 16 cm). 200, 200, 224 pages. Hardcover / Original 18th century leather with gilt lettering on spine. New Spine-Label applied to Volume I. Both Volumes housed in a bespoke built Solander Box. Some minor rubbing. Provenance: From the library of a member of the 1798 Rebellion under Wolfe Tone, William Livingston Webb, with Webb’s name in ink to the titlepage of Volume I and his name also to the first page of Volume II. Webb notes in Volume two that he purchased the books in Lille. While other Protestant Leaders of the Rebellion were hanged, William Livingston Webb was exiled. With a manuscript-poem in english and remarks in french, citing “Voltaire” to rear endpaper of Volume II: “Les Tome auteur n’art de l’esprit qui autart qu’il enfant, ny le recherchant jamais pensent avec priment avec clarte” (?) – Voltaire (?).

[Including an “Appendix containing Three Sermons preached and Published on the Occasion of the Late Rebellion in MDCCXLV” [Meaning the “Jacobite Rising of 1745” also known as the “Forty-five Rebellion” (this Appendix has its own titlepage”] and “A Discourse on the Nature if the Marriage-Union”]. Preached before Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. In Two Volumes.
