Off to the sea this afternoon – may post this in Porto Ercole. Your old friend is relaxing. Gracefully – Love J.” [Date hard to decipher, possibly in 1962] / 3. Postcard III: From John Lehmann in Santa Barbara in California to Adrian Liddell Hart: “Terribly sorry to hear about the broken leg, may it mend quickly, as surely it must undo the ministrations of Florence …..Nightingale. I expect to be in England all March, but then off again – to Jimmy Carter Country – Love J.” [20.2.77]. Hardcover and Softcover. Of the series of 28 Volumes of the “New Writing ″ Series, only three with stronger signs of wear and in poorer condition. All others in very good condition with only minor signs of wear. Lehmann’s personal copy of Sean O’Faolain’s Autobiography with the original dustjacket in poor condition but the Volume itself very good.

Collection of 118 manuscript postcards, sent by friends, colleagues and lovers to Adrian John Liddell Hart, son of Sir Basil Liddel Hart. Among the postcards also three (3) manuscript postcards by Adrian Liddel Hart’s lover, publisher John Lehmann, with interesting content (″Am staying with Harold Acton in this marvellous Villa…pity you aren’t with me….your old friend is wavering – Love J.” / another postcard by Lehmann to Adrian mentions Florence Nightingale and is also signed “Love – J.” / Other postcards with interesting content (″When the foreign ministers go bust, do you go bust too ? – Where are you and what happened to you ? )

Collection of 45 manuscript postcards, signed and sent by Sir Basil Liddell Hart’s second wife Kathleen Liddell Hart to Adrian Liddell Hart. 32 of the postcards were sent by Kathleen from trips she undertook with Basil throughout the world, reporting to Sir Basil’s son Adrian from their experiences at conferences, meetings with governments, exhausting visits to war cemeteries etc. etc. A lot of the postcards very detailed with a good insight into Basil Liddell Hart’s routines (″Basil is sweating over two articles” / “At the moment he is seeing Monnel to discuss the Schumann Plan” / etc. ). The remaining 13 postcards were all written after Sir Basil Liddel Hart’s death and for example deal with the sale of the estate: John Cooper telling me that the N.P.G. paid 9500 Sterling for the picture. He wants more information on Hein and Basil. Wonder how much our Kennington’s are worth ? /

Together with the Ingenio that makes the Sugar, with the Plots of the several Houses, Rooms, and other places, that are used in the whole process of Sugar-making; viz. the Grinding-house, Still-house, and Furnaces; All cut in Copper.

London, Printed, and are to be sold by Peter Parker, at his Shop at the Leg and Star over against the Royal Exchange, and Thomas Guy at the corner Shop of Little Lumbard-street and Cornhill, 1673. Small-Folio (19 cm x 29 cm). [II], 122 pages plus an unnumbered Index-page (bound, according to instructions for the bookbinder after page 84), lacking the Fold-out-Map of Barbados but including all six illustrations of Plants, as well as the three diagrams of Houses and Production-Rooms for Sugar. 19th-century Hardcover (half-leather with gilt lettering on spine). Condition of Binding: Very good condition with only minor signs of wear to the binding / Condition of bookblock: Original, front free endpaper was preserved and bound in. Rear endpaper missing. The original endpaper includes two historical ownership-signatures in ink (c.17th or early 18th century) as well as several annotations in ink and pencil. The previous owners seem to have been one Richard Gardner and there is an additional notation verso which reads: “E[x] Libris Richmondi Garnays [or Garneys]”. Some ink-annotations or corrections throughout the book. Signs of old bookworm – damage and very few abrasions due to fire-sparks (few pages effected only). Some plates with professional repairs, some tears. Some professional paper-repairs and re-enforcements to title-page and Content-Page. All the described flaws sound worse than they really appear.
