This is not just another book on fly fishing but essential a practical introduction written by an experienced angler with no time for the mystique which so often surrounds fly fishing and discourages beginners and coarse fishermen from taking up the sport. Fly fishing is easy, he says, and sets out to prove it with easily-understood descriptions of its various forms. He deals with trout and salmon fishing under all conditions- on rivers and brooks, lowland reservoirs and highland lochs- with sea trout and grayling, and with the half-dozen types of coarse fish which come readily to a fly. Every method of fishing wet or dry fly is discussed, the theory being first simply explained and its practical application then described in clear, straightforward instructions. Casting, the author maintains, is far from being as difficult as some experts would have us believe and he points the way towards speedy proficiency in the art. Nor does he believe that the fly fisherman needs to delve too deeply at first into scientific studies of entomology, but rather that, given the basic understanding of fishing which this book affords, the beginner can best develop his interest and his skill by going out and catching fish.
