Later Edition of the original 1857 – edition. London, Chapman & Hall, 1889. 23 x 15 cm. XIV, 625 pages with thirty-nine engraved plates by H.K.Browne. Hardcover / Original dark green cloth cover with gilt lettering on spine. Recently professionally repaired binding with new endpapers but also the original endpapers retained and the original Exlibris mounted to pastedown. Excellent condition after restauration. Ex-Libris (dated 1915) of sporting specialist Hugh McCausland on front endpaper. A lovely late-nineteenth century copy of Dickens’ classic novel. Manuscript entry in ink by McCausland: “Some of the illustrations in this book are probably reproductions of those by Phiz in the 1st edition”. An important, society-critical Dickens Novel, still highly relevant. Subsequently from the library of Richard Meade (Ballymartle).
