Hardcover / Modern, stunning half-leather bound to 18th-century style with gilt lettering and ornament on spine. Both Volumes now in protective Mylar. Excellent condition with only a few signs of foxing. The paper in fantastic condition, illustrations and portraits impressive; wide margins make this a great collectable. A rare opportunity to acquire this important publication in a firm and beautiful binding. The exceptional restoration was done by an english master-bindery.

Rare in this original binding. Very good and especially firm condition of all Volumes.

Binding of all eight Volumes look overall poor, with spinelabels missing or broken. Interior in excellent condition with some occasion faded dampstains but overall no browning and all the frontispieces in place. The Dublin Edition comes rarely to the market !

Two Treatises by Henry Ainsworth. The First, “Of the Communion of Saints”. The Second: “An Arrow Against Idolatry” etc. – To this Edition is prefixed, some “Account of the Life and Writings of the Author”.

Hardcover / Original 18th century leather, professionally restored with a modern spine to the style of the period. The Volume in protective collector’s Mylar. Very good condition with some minor signs of wear only. Rare edition with an early biographical account on Henry Ainsworth. Heavily annotated with contemporary comments. Annotations on pastedown, endpaper and within text are focused on crossreferencing Ainsworth’s publication with other contemporaries and their conflicting or corresponding thoughts on Idolatry (Hugh Broughton “on the consent of times” gets mentioned etc.).

Original 18th-century binding, recently rebacked in 18th-century-style by two english master-bookbinders. Excellent condition with only minor signs of external wear. Front free endpaper with faded dampstain. Only very minor signs of foxing. Some minor wormhole – damage to the inner margins but not effecting the text. Wide margins. Original 18th-century contemporary calf with gilt lettering on spine and on five raised bands. The Volume is now protected in Collector’s Mylar. Very good+ condition with only minor signs of external wear. Some rubbing and corners slightly bumped but overall excellent. Interior near fine with only the slightest occasional spotting. Extremely Rare and even rarer in this condition !

9. Birch, Thomas.

An Inquiry into the Share which King Charles I had in the transactions of the Earl of Glamorgan, afterwards Marquis of Worcester, for bringing over a Body of Irish Rebels to assist that King, in the Years 1645 and 1646. In which Mr.Carte’s imperfect Account of that Affair, and his Use of the MS. Memoirs of the Pope’s Nuncio Rinuccini, are impartially considered. The whole drawn up from the Best Authorities, Printed and Manuscript. The Second Edition; to which is added an Appendix, containing several Letters of the King to the Earl of Glamorgan, from the Originals in the Harleian Library of Manuscripts.
