This extremely rare publication is a key-publication of Irish Genealogy and has set new standards of genealogical research. In the Obituary for Rosemary ffolliott, the Irish Times wrote in 2009: “In 1958, when she was 23 years of age, Rosemary ffolliott compiled “The Pooles of Mayfield”, a history of Settler Families in the Cork area. The publication of this Munster gentry, which some who appeared in it described as “the Dead Sea Scrolls”, initiated a career in the difficult field of Irish genealogy, made the more arduous by the destruction of records at the Four Courts. Her dedication to a discipline that had been considered vague, imprecise and colourful, had an acknowledged effect in raising the standards of genealogy in Ireland. Her research methods were meticulous and she is remembered as a genius in the use of the Registry of Deeds in Henrietta Street. In 1966 she became a Fellow of the Irish Genealogical Research Society, the first woman to be recognised in this way.” The publication is an important source for the History of Family-Connections for the two Irish Country-House-Libraries we currently have on offer: “The Richard Meade Collection (Ballymartle)” and “The Danile Conner – Collection (Connerville and Manch House)”. Collation complete ! Hardcover / Original full calf of the 18th century with orignal spine-label and gilt ornament on spine. Binding still holding but both boards nearly detached (in need of repair). Interior in very good condition with all of the fascinating plates present. Some minor creasing to some plates and only very slight foxing to very few plates. A Rare original version of this sought after Book !!

3. [Webb, William Livingston / United Irishmen] [Muralt, Béat Louis de (1665-1749)].

Three Volumes bound in Two (complete set). [Paris], 1726. Small-Octavo (10 cm x 16 cm). 200, 200, 224 pages. Hardcover / Original 18th century leather with gilt lettering on spine. New Spine-Label applied to Volume I. Both Volumes housed in a bespoke built Solander Box. Some minor rubbing. Provenance: From the library of a member of the 1798 Rebellion under Wolfe Tone, William Livingston Webb, with Webb’s name in ink to the titlepage of Volume I and his name also to the first page of Volume II. Webb notes in Volume two that he purchased the books in Lille. While other Protestant Leaders of the Rebellion were hanged, William Livingston Webb was exiled. With a manuscript-poem in english and remarks in french, citing “Voltaire” to rear endpaper of Volume II: “Les Tome auteur n’art de l’esprit qui autart qu’il enfant, ny le recherchant jamais pensent avec priment avec clarte” (?) – Voltaire (?).

4. [Trevor, Edward / Kilmainhaim Gaol (Jail)] / [Anonymous (attributed to Sanders, Robert)].

The Roman History, In a Series of Letters from a Nobleman to his Son. [Personal copy of Edward Trevor, with the signed autographed name and original bookplate / Exlibris of this infamous medical inspector of convicts in Kilmainham Jail and later in Cork supervisor of Convict – departure to Australia].

First Irish Edition. Two Volumes (complete set). Dublin, Printed for J.Williams, 1775. Small-Octavo (11,5 cm x 17 cm). IV, 300, 262 pages. Original Hardcover with original spine-labels. In protective Mylar. New endpaper to Volume I. Minor wormhole-damage to pastedown and a few pages only. Binding slightly rubbed but firm and strong. Very good condition with only minor signs of wear. This set, with the exceptionally interesting provenance, does not only contain Trevor’s signature but also his bookplate and some doodling of a portrait of an 18th or 19th century figurehead.

First Dublin Edition. Dublin, Printed by P.Wogan at The Old Bridge and P.Byrne, College-Green, 1784. Octavo (14 cmx 21 cm). [10], LXIX, 825 [unnumbered] pages. Including a lenghty section mentioning the Irish Subscribers to this Dictionary with name and town. Hardcover / Original 18th century full leather with original, red spine-label with gilt lettering. In protective Mylar. Binding rubbed and with some minor loss to leather. The binding firm and strong and endpapers and pastdeowns intact and NOT cracked ! Small signs of a faded dampstain without any consequence to the very good condition throughout. One page with a tear (Letter G). The unpaginated section was collated as complete.

7. [O’Connor, Roger] Captain Rock.

Letters to His Majesty, King George the Fourth. [This is the Volume owned by the Conner – Family of Manch House and it bears the Bookplate of Henry Daniel Conner].

London, Published by B. Steill, 1828. Small Octavo. 372 (of 378 pages with six pages missing from the Postscript). Hardcover / Private half – leather-binding. From the library of Daniel Conner & Henry Daniel Conner (Connerville / Manch House), with the Exlibris / Bookplate of Henry Daniel Conner to pastedown. Two additional names written inside the book. The rarest publication by Roger O’Conner, who wrote under the pseudonym “Captain Rock”, in which much of his families history and its connection to Irish History is revealed. The publication is full of autobiographical detail on Roger O’Connor and his family and Biographical History of Nobility and minor Nobility during O’Connor’s time. Roger O’Connor explains in a form of a biographical Dictionary within the book the many different functions and historical details of Earls, Marquis’, Viscounts and other men of merit in Ireland at the time.

Armorial Binding from the library of Ruth Corker with manuscript entries regarding the History of family-relations and marriage of Ruth Corker (born Falkiner) of St.Stephen’s Green in Dublin during the years 1693 – 1760. The armorial binding is containing the rare fifth edition of the important Prayer – Guide by english Theologian, Hymn-writer and Logician, Isaac Watts: “A Guide to Prayer : Or A Free and Rational Account of the Gift, Grace and Spirit of Prayer; With plain Directions how every Christian may attain them”.

The Fifth Edition. London, Printed for Emanuel Matthews, 1730. Small Octavo. [5], 156, [1] pages. Hardcover / Original, early 18th century full-leather with armorial embossing to both boards. New spine-label. Ruth Corker’s Library-stamp verso the titlepage. This used to be Ruth Corker’s mother’s book prior to her own and the name Mary Falkiner is written in ink on top of the Preface-page. Manuscript entry “Ruth Corker Her Book 1731” on halftitle with several entries informing on marriages and relationships within the Falkiner and Corker and Robinson – family added obviousy by a later relative (Ruth Robinson, who was married to Robert Robinson). Excellent condition with only minor signs of wear.
