Binding of all eight Volumes look overall poor, with spinelabels missing or broken. Interior in excellent condition with some occasion faded dampstains but overall no browning and all the frontispieces in place. The Dublin Edition comes rarely to the market !

Two Treatises by Henry Ainsworth. The First, “Of the Communion of Saints”. The Second: “An Arrow Against Idolatry” etc. – To this Edition is prefixed, some “Account of the Life and Writings of the Author”.

Edinburgh, Printed by D.Paterson, 1789. Octavo. LXIX, 344 pages with two titlepages announcing the two titles separately. Hardcover / Original 18th century leather, professionally restored with a modern spine to the style of the period. The Volume in protective collector’s Mylar. Very good condition with some minor signs of wear only. Rare edition with an early biographical account on Henry Ainsworth. Heavily annotated with contemporary comments. Annotations on pastedown, endpaper and within text are focused on crossreferencing Ainsworth’s publication with other contemporaries and their conflicting or corresponding thoughts on Idolatry (Hugh Broughton “on the consent of times” gets mentioned etc.).

Gotha, Carl Wilhelm Ettinger, 1775. Klein-Oktav. V, 82 Seiten. Hardcover / Originales Ganzleder des 18.Jahrhunderts mit reicher Rückenvergoldung. Unteres und oberes Kapital mit kleineren Fehlstellen. Die seltene Originalbindung bis auf kleinere Schaeden in sehr guter Erhaltung. Der originale Buchblock von den schoenen, originalen Vorsatzpapieren flankiert und tadellos erhalten. Sehr selten !

First Edition. London, Printed for J.Johnson, 1785. Octavo. VIII, 349 pages. Hardcover / Original, 18th century full calf with original spine-label. Front hinge weak but holding. Minor scuffing and rubbing. Overall in very good condition with only minor signs of external wear. Halftitle present but front free endpaper missing. Text in excellent condition. Exlibris / Bookplate of Daniel Conner to pastedown. Extremely Rare and important publication with early remarks on Gender Equality and a lengthy section on the justification of Slavery.

Hardcover / Original 18th century leather with new spinelabels, made to style. Both Volumes now in protective Mylar. Some minor wormhole-damage to the last 20 pages of Volume Two.Minor lesions to some pages only. Faded dampstain to both Volumes. Still, both Volumes firm and complete. Important scottish enlightenment publication. From the library of one “John Courtenay”, with his name in ink on the titlepages of both Volumes. This is possibly John Courtenay (22 August 1738 – 24 March 1816), who was an Irish officer in the British Army, later becing a politician in England. Außergewöhnlich gut erhalten mit zwei ganz kleinen Wurmgängen am unteren Kapital. Ganz blasses Anzeichen eines alten Bibliotheksstempelchen auf dem Titelblatt. Very good condition with some minor signs of wear only to the edges and two tiny lesions to the titlepage of the first Volume. Faded dampstain to some pages of the lower bookblock of Volume II. While the bookblock is generally used and has the occasional very faint stain and a minor tear to a page, the set is in very good or even better condition ! Extremely scarce !
