The author’s own copy with his bookplate to the pastedown. Henry Dircks must have given his special bound “author’s copy” away because the endpaper bears his inscription to Dr. John Waggett MD FRCS (1818-1909), London’s beloved General Practicioner, Vaccinator and Honorary Surgeon to the local dispensary for the poor: “Dr.Waggett – With the author’s compliments – May 1862”. Excellent condition with only very minor signs of external wear.

Folded Frontispiece, X, 111 pages with 21 plates (original Lithographs often large folding). Hardcover / Original publisher’s cloth, embossed with gilt lettering to cover. Excellent condition of one of the rarest books on the History of irish commercial fishing and suggestions for professionalizing irish fishing industry in the 19th century. This book comes from the library of irish engineer William Le Fanu, with his bookplate to the pastedown and a stamp “Board of Public Works” to the dedication-page. The books interior with all the lithographic illustrations in very good condition. Occasional foxing only. Extremely rare; very scarce publication ! This is a superior example of this book; with all illustrations in place and in excellent condition.

Original, 18th century italian manuscript on how to build a vertical clock with sound: “Come si Dissegni in practica un Orologio Verticale Italiano a suonodella Campana secondo le regole del Scanavacca” [Translates: “How to Draw an Italian Vertical Clock with the sound of the Bell in practice according to the rules of [Bartologmeo] Scanavacca”].

Italy, c.1750. A4. 22 pages with text, diagrams or drawings (partly in colour). Original Softcover Folder with original manuscript papers and drawings inside. Majority of the pages with damages and some with loss of text to outer margins. Extremely rare and interesting manuscript, also dealing with “Orologi a Sole Guili”.

Second printing of the first authorized edition in Russian (preceded only by two CIA-sponsored, and virtually unobtainable, editions printed in Italy and distributed at the Brussels World Fair in the summer of 1958). Exlibris Janice Clark. Wonderful collectable !

Pastedown with armorial Bookplate / Exlibris of Scottish statesman, the Right Honorable Patrick Hume, Earl of Marchmont, Viscount of Blasonberry, Lord Polwarth of Polwarth & Lord High Chancellorof Scotland – [Bookplate dated at 1702 – Motto: “Fides Probata Coronat” – “True to the End”]. Very good condition with only minor signs of external wear. Minor lesion/tear to outer margins of page 461. With manuscript entries by the preowner to the top of each page, detailing each page for easier access into sections of countries (Germany, Poland, France, Spain, Britain, Rome, Sweden etc.). This book is rare; but with the excellent provenance from the library of Sir Patrick Hume, an even more important and desirable publication.
