A Rare original version of this sought after Book !!

The Roman History, In a Series of Letters from a Nobleman to his Son. [Personal copy of Edward Trevor, with the signed autographed name and original bookplate / Exlibris of this infamous medical inspector of convicts in Kilmainham Jail and later in Cork supervisor of Convict – departure to Australia].

First Irish Edition. Two Volumes (complete set). Dublin, Printed for J.Williams, 1775. Small-Octavo (11,5 cm x 17 cm). IV, 300, 262 pages. Original Hardcover with original spine-labels. In protective Mylar. New endpaper to Volume I. Minor wormhole-damage to pastedown and a few pages only. Binding slightly rubbed but firm and strong. Very good condition with only minor signs of wear. This set, with the exceptionally interesting provenance, does not only contain Trevor’s signature but also his bookplate and some doodling of a portrait of an 18th or 19th century figurehead.

Name of Richard Meade of Ballymartle on titlepage of both Volumes. Minor lesion and tear to titlepage of Volume II. Overall very good ! Extremely scarce publication in first or second edition !

The River Side / The River’s Side – A Poem by R A Millikin. [With an original Watercolour as Frontispice, possibly by Millikin himself, who was, among many other things, also a Watercolour-Artist]. Book I – Book II – Book III.

First and only Edition. [Cork], [1807]. Quarto. Frontispice – Watercolour, 147 pages with several of the pages misbound but complete. Private Half-Leather. Binding and Volume overall in very poor condition. Wide margins, formerly stitched. The Volume ahas all the trademarks of a working-copy, which could explain the stunning Watercolour as Frontispice (or even as titlepage). Faded dampstain to upper margins. While the Volume is rough, it has the typical charme of an underestimated, very rare publication by a local Cork poet [which is manifested by Milliken dedicating the work to the members of the Cork Library Society at the time]. This Volume is of utmost rarity.

A very rare find, this is one of the more elusive periodicals of the early 19th century, printed just after the Act of Union in 1800 was established and printed by english printer Luke Hansard for publishers and printers in London, Dublin and Cork.

First and only edition in this form. Ulmae [Ulm], Daniel Bartholomaei et Filium, 1744. Small Quarto (19 cm x 22 cm). [XX], 226 pages plus the two rare copper engravings, depicting male and female Druids of old (Druides et Druidissae). The two plates with engravings were bound in the rear. Hardcover / Excellent, recent half-leather binding in protective Mylar. Very good condition with only minor signs of wear. The half-leather slightly stained but all in wonderful condition. The original bookblock uncut. A very rare and interesting publication on Druidism / Text in latin with some german elements.

London, Richard Bentley, 1863. 12 cm x 19 cm. Frontispiece, XVI, 362 pages. The frontispiece is a colour-lithograph of El Kantara. Attractive hardcover [publisher’s original purple cloth] with gilt lettering and ornamental design on spine. Gilt lettering and richly decorative tooling on front board. Blind tooling on back board also. Pebbled boards. All edges gilt. Very good condition with only minor signs of external wear. Cloth frayed at spine head and tail. Slight cracking to gutter between front pastedown and endpaper. Binding still very good and firm. Some foxing to endpapers. Interior very clean and bright. Some untrimmed pages. Handwritten message on front endpaper reads “A Prize gained by Louisea Mells for Progress in her French studies, Xmas. 1869. Magdalen House.” An extremely rare, rather scarce, early publication by an Irish Woman Traveller in Africa who also lived and helped through the Irish Famine and was not only an early Feminist but also one of the first members of the Suffragette Movement.

30. Birch, Thomas.

An Inquiry into the Share which King Charles I had in the transactions of the Earl of Glamorgan, afterwards Marquis of Worcester, for bringing over a Body of Irish Rebels to assist that King, in the Years 1645 and 1646. In which Mr.Carte’s imperfect Account of that Affair, and his Use of the MS. Memoirs of the Pope’s Nuncio Rinuccini, are impartially considered. The whole drawn up from the Best Authorities, Printed and Manuscript. The Second Edition; to which is added an Appendix, containing several Letters of the King to the Earl of Glamorgan, from the Originals in the Harleian Library of Manuscripts.
