Still a very, very rare book with some amazing historical astrology and related history like “Table of Longitudes and Latitudes of certain Cities and great Towns in England” (mentioning also “Dublin in Ireland” and “Edinborough in Scotland”. The privately affixed Index condensed some secret knowledge important to the preowner of this book: “Colours of the Planets”, “Combustion”, “Face of a Planet”, “Names of Planets and Signs”, and it also mentions a case in which a “Thief to be judged of by the peregrine Planet” etc. From the 18th-century-library of one “Joseph Clark”, with his name in ink verso the titlepage of the “Nativities”: “Joseph Clark – his Book – 1765”.

Endpapers and pastedown with some minor spotting. All these descriptions of faults sound worse than they are. Vita de Sancto Hieronymo [with original manuscript letter by Philip Hofer, later Curator of the Department of Printing and Graphic Arts at Harvard’s Houghton Library, discussing his work at the [Pierpont] Morgan Library and the first product of Cygnet Press, “Vita de Sancto Hieronymo”, which he and George Parker Winship had produced 6 years earlier: “The little book which accompanies this note is one which George Parker Winship and I set by hand and printed a few years ago. It amused us, and, I hope, will amuse you. Of course we would do it differently now – that is always the way !”. The letter, on Hofer’s stationery with his address at 14 East Ninetieth Street, is addressed to one Dr. Collija in Stockholm, on June 25, 1934 and Hofer reminisces about the wonderful time he had there and how he wants to return to Sweden.

Manuscript entry “Ruth Corker Her Book 1731” on halftitle with several entries informing on marriages and relationships within the Falkiner and Corker and Robinson – family added obviousy by a later relative (Ruth Robinson, who was married to Robert Robinson). Excellent condition with only minor signs of wear.

Former copy of the St.Ägidius Konvent in Hadamar with the old library-stamp obliterated / Ehemaliges Exemplar des Franziskanerklosters in Hadamar, St.Ägidius. Extremely important Bible-concordance. With some annotations in text (at word “Thabor” for example).

CXI leaves with woodcut-titlepage. Excellent modern Hardcover (full calf with spinelabel) bound to 16th-century style. Very good condition. Few pages with minor staining only. With some manuscript annotations and one longer manuscript-entry to the last page of the volume. Sole edition, only held in two libraries worldwide (Bergamo and Turin / Torino). An extremely scarce, early 16th century print of a repertory with chapters on Metaphysics, Ethics, Politics. Mainly philosophical but also some medical aphorisms from various philosophers. The Volume also includes an early edition of Aristotle’s “Problemata”.

With an introduction, containing the use and benefit of catechizing, the generall grounds of Religion, and the truth of Christian religion in particular, proved against Atheists, Pagans, Jews and Turks. The Third Edition, corrected and perfected, according to the Authors own Copy and thereby purged from many thousands of Errors, Defects, and Corruptions, which were in arude imperfect Draught formerly Published, as appears in the Preface to the Reader.

Annotations on pastedown, endpaper and within text are focused on crossreferencing Ainsworth’s publication with other contemporaries and their conflicting or corresponding thoughts on Idolatry (Hugh Broughton “on the consent of times” gets mentioned etc.).
