It amused us, and, I hope, will amuse you. Of course we would do it differently now – that is always the way !”. The letter, on Hofer’s stationery with his address at 14 East Ninetieth Street, is addressed to one Dr. Collija in Stockholm, on June 25, 1934 and Hofer reminisces about the wonderful time he had there and how he wants to return to Sweden.

All of the fine etchings mounted to stiff paper. Original hardcover / Decorative quarter morocco with gilt lettering and ornament on spine. Very few of the etchings with foxing. Very good condition of this extremely rare edition (no.129 of 250 copies only) with only very minor signs of external wear / some rubbing to the binding and bumping to the corners. Some corners very slightly fingerstained and with a hint of a faded dampstain. Name of former owner on endpaper: “Martin F. Jackson – 501 – 5 ave. New York City”.

Two corners torn (two pages following the title), corner of page 185 torn and page 92 of the second part of the book with longer lesion within text (no loss of text). Endpapers and pastedown with some minor spotting. All these descriptions of faults sound worse than they are. Interior text, plates and portraits overall in unbelievably clean and excellent condition. Name of pre-owner in ink on title and verso frontispiece (″J.Stilwell”).
