Original Hardcover / 18th century or early 19th century red leather. Stronger rubbed but firm and intact binding. Interior with tear to page 15/16, some minor foxing and browning only, some writing to interleaved pages in a child’s hand. All plates with Heraldic Bearings, Coat of Arms, Emblemata, Badges etc. included. Here the rare 1799 publication with over 500 examples of Heraldry of Ireland, Scotland and England. But this book is mostly interesting for the abundance of doodles by 19th-century Oxford – student Daniel Conner, from Ireland. Hardcover / Modern half-leather with gilt lettering and spinelable. Bound to style of the 17th century by an english masterbindery, which made sure to preserve the original endpapers and pastedowns. An excellent restoration with preserved patina of this scarce work. The titlepage with a professional repair. Although no sign of it, this book came from the library of Daniel Conner (Manch House). Name of another former owner to pastedown: “Thomas Davis – his book , October 21, 1790”. Extremely rare !

Important scottish enlightenment publication. From the library of one “John Courtenay”, with his name in ink on the titlepages of both Volumes. This is possibly John Courtenay (22 August 1738 – 24 March 1816), who was an Irish officer in the British Army, later becing a politician in England. Only the first Volume (Dublin Edition) with some stronger damage to endpapers but very good and firm inside. All other Volumes in very good condition. Extremely rare with Volume IX, the nearly always missing Supplement Volume. Provanance: Volume I (Dublin Edition) from the library of John Morrison / Volumes 2 – 9 from the library of Chris Rogers. Both names written in contemporary ink to titlepages.
