Very good and firm condition with only minor signs of external wear. Name of 19th century preowner “Robert Osman’s book 1844” on endpaper. Text with only very occasional and minor staining. A wonderful example of this extremely scarce second edition of Martin’s english dictionary, published one year prior to Samuel Johnson’s dictionary.

Hardcover / Original dark green cloth cover with gilt lettering on spine. Recently professionally repaired binding with new endpapers but also the original endpapers retained and the original Exlibris mounted to pastedown. Excellent condition after restauration. Ex-Libris (dated 1915) of sporting specialist Hugh McCausland on front endpaper. A lovely late-nineteenth century copy of Dickens’ classic novel. Manuscript entry in ink by McCausland: “Some of the illustrations in this book are probably reproductions of those by Phiz in the 1st edition”. An important, society-critical Dickens Novel, still highly relevant.
