Inscribed to Frederic Zelnik by one of his silent cinema actresses, Emma Morel, during the filing of “Vadertje Langbeen”, based on a Novel from Jean Webster and adapted fror the screen by Rudolph Bernauer, the film was made by Zelnik and filmed in Amsterdam. Emma Mourel was one of the stars of the Movie and inscribed the book to Zelnik: “Van ouren voorbeeldigen Regisseur den Heer Friedrich Zelnik, her herinnering van Amsterdam Augustus 1938. Voor alle….Gross-aufnahmen !! Met reeht-hartelycken dank en auf Wiedersehen von Emma Morel”.

Very good+ condition with only minor signs of external wear. After the restoration now a highly-desirable collectable. One of the first sociological studies of conditions within the penal system of England and Ireland compared to other 18th-century practices within European Jails / Gaols. The partly romantic engravings seem sinister when one imagines what inmates and children endured within these settings. Hardcover / Original 19th century half leather with two spine-labels, professionally rebacked and restored by a professional bookbindery. Original pastedowns retained with the original bookbindery-label of C.T.Jefferies & Sons from Bristol. Some of the Cruikshank-plates very good, some with strong foxing (as usual). The text fresh and clean. After the restoration, this Volume is now in excellent condition with some minor signs of wear only.
